Demo Reel of Duane Woods - 2010 from Duane Woods on Vimeo.

An avid lover of all-things film, I moved to Vancouver to obtain employment in the video and film industry. I am trained in editing and compositing programs such as Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Photoshop and Pro Tools.

This is my reel for 2010, which highlights clips from my two latest projects:
1) Nature of the Beast - I was an editor and a gunshot compositor for this sci-fi promo trailer,
which recently made the rounds at Cannes.
2) Tunnel - I was the editor and on-set DIT for this short film, which was one of the winning entrants to produce a film in 8 days for the Crazy8s festival. Editing took place for the 7-minute film over 30 continuous hours.

Editing & Shooting (Short & Fast)

In a word: intense.  I wanted this reel to act as a quick and dirty version, more akin to to a "trailer",  of my longer, more methodical reels for shooting and editing.

The Japanese taiko drumming provides the tension and rhythm for the piece.  The clips with sound match the unstated tension and conflict of a larger story.  In the spirit of showing this lightning-strike trailer, I inserted the names of forty or so segments and topics that I've worked in the in past year on Living Together.  Nearly all of the footage is taken from Living Together, a show I was working on this year.  Every full-length episode shown in this reel was edited by me, with nearly all of the footage being shot by me as well (some shots were from a second videographer).

Highlights:  profiling Mayor Sam Sullivan, visiting an addiction recovery centre and interviewing the recovering addicts, handing out food to the homeless for Feed The Need

Most Challenging Episode:  The King Swing and Treego clips, where I was shooting bungy jumping from a 143 foot bridge and 40 feet in the trees, respectively.  I might add that I'm dead-scared of heights!  For added effect, I joined my host on the King Swing, the tandem bungy jump that slingshots you at 4 G's off of the bridge (obviously, I had to hand the camera off at that point!).
